Setting Up Google Checkout

Login to your google account and click on Base, Data Feed.  In the right hand side of the page you'll see a link to sign up for Google Checkout.
Setup your profile, your financials and preferences.  If you charge tax in mals you don't need to setup anything in google checkout for taxes.  Click on the Integration link.

IMPORTANT!  If you do not check the box to indicate orders should be authorized AND charged you will have to login and manually click the button to charge the card for each order. You must charge the order within seven calendar days (168 hours) of receiving the order to be guaranteed these funds.

Tick the box that says My company will only post digitally signed carts.
Just to the right of this you'll see your account information.  Under account information you'll see your Google Merchant ID and Google merchant key.

Keep the Google checkout window open and open your Mals.

Select Cart Setup, payments, Google checkout.
Copy from the google merchant ID the ID number and paste it into the Merchant ID box in Mals under Google checkout. Do the same the google merchant key.

In mals on the right side in the gray shaded area you'll see the API callback URL.  Below that you'll see the callback url that you need to copy.  It will look something like this, depending on your mals server number:
https://wwXX.aitsafe.com/gen/google.php  (replace the wwXX with ww and your server number)

Back in Google checkout integration:
Paste the callback url from mals into the Callback url spot in google checkout.
Set the callback method to XML and click on the advanced settings link and check the option to return a shipping phone number.

You should see your google checkout button in the cart now.  If you're using advanced shipping calculations you may have to email Mal at ms@mals-e.com to tweak your cart.  There is a conflict with the zip code that Mal has to fix in order for the google checkout button to show in your cart.  If you aren't using advanced shipping then your button should appear in the cart without having to do anything else.

Things to be aware of:

  • It will not reduce the inventory if your product is using options - you'll have to manually update the inventory for these orders
  • Google will push the order through your admin and then attempt to charge the card so first make sure the card was actually charged by logging into Google checkout merchants and checking.
  • Google will sometimes give random discounts
  • When shoppers use one of your discount codes it will put a minus sign in front of it in admin making the customer's total go UP by the discount and not down. They are charged correctly, but their receipt is incorrect
